FAQs

  • What should I bring?

To make the most of your sauna session, we recommend bringing:

    • Swimwear (ideally wearing it)

    • Two towels (or you can hire -a seat towel - £1.50)

      • One to sit on and one to dry off with

    • Pool sliders or flip-flops (optional but the site can get muddy)

    • A water bottle (not to bring in the sauna, cups provided)

    • A sauna hat (optional)

    Sauna Etiquette

To keep the space calm and respectful for everyone:

    • Sit on a towel inside the sauna
Please bring two towels with you. One to sit on and one to dry yourself with.

    • One ladle at a time
Ask others before adding water to the stones and pause between ladles. It takes time for the heat to have an effect and too much water kills the fire.

    • Be mindful of others' experiences
This is a community space. Please be mindful of your noise level within the sauna. Some saunas are quiet.

    • Shower before you plunge
Please rinse off your sweat! It helps keep the plunges fresh for everyone.

    • Swimsuits are required to be worn in all sessions
Please wear a swim suit in all sessions

    • We are a neutral body space
Please do not comment on people’s bodies or tattoos, even if you have positive intentions.

    • Essential oils guidance
No essential oils to be used in public sessions. Putting the wrong essential oils can affect the customers’ safety - we opt for local herbs in our sessions.

    • This is a sober space
Alcohol can be enjoyed after your sauna session only.

    • This is a phone-free zone
Please do not bring your phone inside the sauna. You are welcome to take pictures outside, but please ask for consent in advance.

    Essentials Oils in the Sauna

We love a good scent session - but for the safety and comfort of everyone, we ask that you leave your essential oils at home.

    Why? Here’s the lowdown:

    • Quality can’t be guaranteed and some oils can irritate others when heated.

    • Too much of a good thing can be just that. Overuse can make the air overwhelming for some.

    • Some people are allergic to certain essential oils and heat intensifies reactions.

    • Fire risk - oils on hot sauna stones are a safety issue.

That said, trained facilitators may use essential oils during specific guided rituals where the doses and quality are properly managed.

  • When should I arrive for my session?

We recommend arriving 5 - 15 minutes early to check-in with our sauna host, change and prepare for your session. Sauna sessions start on time and late arrivals will lose sauna time.

There is no guarantee of changing room use, you may have to wait if you prefer to change in the changing area. You are welcome to change outside or in the toilets.

  • What temperature are the saunas kept at?

We aim to keep the saunas between 80 degrees and 95 degrees - you can always ask your sauna host for any adjustments you need.

How long should I stay in the sauna for?

We recommend listening to your body and taking a break to cool down when you feel that you need it. It would be advisable to not stay in the sauna for longer than 20 minutes a time.

How long shall I cool plunge for?

We recommend listening to your body and cooling down for as long as you need. You can also simply cool down outside or lay on the grass to cool down.

  • Alterations & Cancellations Policy

An update and explanation to our cancellation policy.

    Introduction & context

The Somewhere Sauna exists to help people slow down, get warm, breathe deeply, and reconnect — with nature, with others, and with themselves.

We’re not a spa or a corporate operation. We’re a small, independent team running wood-fired saunas in the local community. A big part of our work is managing the sites, lighting fires, carrying logs, filling water tanks, welcoming guests whilst keeping everything running safely and smoothly.

We have a small team who work on the admin on a weekly basis but we are unable to have an administrative team available 7 days a week.

Over time, the number of last-minute change and cancellation requests have grown to a point where it was starting to affect our ability to deliver the actual sauna experience.

So we thought we’d explain our policy in more detail so you, as our customer, understand our policy and our expectations are set more transparently to keep things flowing smoothly for everyone.

    Cancellations

If you need to cancel, we ask for at least 2 days’ / 48 hours notice.
This gives us a chance to offer your space to someone else and rebalance the session.

If you cannot make your session or reschedule in time, you are welcome to gift your booking to a friend or family member instead — just let us know who’ll be coming in your place.

More than 2 days’ notice? Cancellations made with more than 2 days notice can be changed manually through your booking confirmation email. If you are struggling to do so, your best bet is to ring the sauna phone (numbers on website) to speak to a sauna host who can manually change your session for you.

Our saunas are open 7 days a week (opening times on the website) so you should be able to get hold of someone within those times.

A note on capacity and seat availability.

You wouldn’t usually be able to ring a cinema, theatre, or sports venue to cancel or move a ticket because you’re unwell — you’d either send someone else or the seat would go empty.

It’s similar for us. Once a sauna space is booked, it’s held just for you, and our capacity is very limited.

We always try to be as flexible and human as we can, but there are limits to what’s fair and workable for a small business with limited capacity.

Within 48 hours of a session

We’re unable to make changes within 48 hours of your session.

We simply can’t offer reliable admin support that close to a session or guarantee we can fill the seat so this is our policy.

Within 48 hours of a session - unlimited members.

Unlimited members who cannot make a session within the 48 hours of booking are asked to call the sauna to cancel so we don’t lose that business.

    Why has this come about?

As we’ve got busier over the past year, we have an increasing number of enquiries to reschedule sessions last minute. Each last minute request requires administration, communication and rescheduling. Whilst we have tried to accommodate that life happens to you and we don’t want you to miss out on your sauna, we cannot keep up with the individual requests and situations.

We want to focus our energy on developing our sites, providing the best service possible to our community and running our business sustainability.

This isn’t about squeezing extra money out of anyone — far from it.

    It’s about:

    • Protecting our time

    • Creating clearer boundaries

    • Keeping things fair

    • Encouraging more intentional booking

We know life changes sometimes, and we’ll always do what we reasonably can to help.

But having a simple, respectful policy in place means we can focus on what matters most:
delivering beautiful, reliable, wood-fired sauna experiences.

So please take a moment when booking to choose a time that really works for you.

Your body, your mind, and your wallet will thank you — and so will we.

What happens if we have to cancel?

Very occasionally, things don’t go to plan on our end — weather, technical issues, or low numbers.

If we need to cancel for reasons within our control, as a thank-you for your understanding we’ll offer:

    • A discount  for a future session

    • A full refund or transfer, whichever you prefer

It’s our way of saying thanks for bearing with us when nature or logistics get in the way.
